CAVOUR CASTLE AT SANTENA<\/u><\/p>\n

The castle is very ancient and has been often renovated during the centuries. Today it is an eighteenth century country house, designed by the royal architect Francesco Gallo between 1712 and 1720 and is surrounded by an English style park designed by Xavier Kurten.<\/p>\n

It belonged to the Benso di Cavour family and Camillo Benso di Cavour, the statesmam who succeeded in creating almost single-handedly the Kingdom of Italy from various independent states during the 1850\u2019s, grew up and worked there. Today the castle is a museum dedicated to this great Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

THE CASTLE OF RACCONIGI AND THE HISTORIC CENTRE OF THE TOWN<\/u><\/p>\n

The castle underwent several renovations and the Savoy family acquired it in the second half of the fourteenth century. It was the residence of the Italian royal family in the summer and autumn months. It is completely furnished and the visitors can go through the state apartments and the private ones, the rooms for the nannies, the huge kitchen and the pantries.<\/p>\n

CARMAGNOLA AND ITS HISTORIC CENTRE<\/u><\/p>\n

16 km from Pralormo<\/p>\n

Carmagnola traces its origins back to 1000 A.D. The street grid from the Middle Ages is still there intact.The main street is covered with porticoes and there are still some medieval buildings, like the remnants of the ancient ramparts and defence walls. However, most of the buildings date from the seventeenth century.<\/p>\n

There are also some interesting museums, such as the Hemp Museum, the Typographical Museum with very old printing machinery, the Natural History Museum, a synagogue and the Naval Museum.
\nThe weekly market is on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.<\/p>\n

Alba is at the heart of the Langhe region, world famous for its wines and truffles. It is a very ancient town, founded approximately six thousand years B.C. It is an open air museum with its towers, little squares, narrow lanes, old shops and Roman ruins, full of works of art contained in its historic churches and other buildings.
